Robert's wife and all his children were present at this death. Son C.D. Vernon mentioned his father's death in his "Recollections": This was the year 1887 and my father got injured on a threshing machine that laid him up and blood poison set in and killed him and we buried him in the Inster Cemetery. Robert's death is recorded at Lakota, Nelson County, North Dakota, about five miles west of Michigan City. Lakota, probably had the only hodpital, and/or Doctor in the immediate area, was located about 20 miles southwest of Robert's homestead."."
